Cognitive skills are those related to children’s mental development and include basic sensory motor skills such as Object permanence, Causality, Means and behavior, Spatial relations, Imitation. Pre academic skills like pre reading, pre mathematics and concept development. Infant’s cognitive abilities represent the greatest challenge in assessment. Due to biological maturation and environmental stimulation the rapid development of Central nervous system associated with the first year of life frequently results in dramatic changes in cognitive ability over a very short time.
