Importance of establishing rapport between the child and the examiner

Establishment of sincere trusting relationship with the child is required to obtain optimal performance from the child. Strategies for this include

Strategy for the child: Getting familiarity with the examiner
Strategies for the examiner:

  • Achieving trusting relationship with the child by knowing child’s interests.
  • Familiar with the child’s cultural background or language.
  • Responding in a sensitive manner to the child’s needs.
  • Giving appropriate approval and reinforcement to motivate the child and also to keep child’s focus on the task.
