Introduction: Children of different ages have different needs. These needs are based on each child’s stage of growth and development. Try to understand the unique aspects of each child and plan the activities that are developmentally appropriate for each child. Hence the children should be allowed to play with natural materials such as sand, water, which are least expensive and has high educational value.
Aim: To widen horizon of student’s knowledge on planning stimulation activities for children in the age range of 19-24 months.
Objectives:
Developing the skill in planning stimulation activities for infants (19-24 months).
To plan the material for stimulation activities for children (19-24 months).
Characteristics of infants (19-24 months)
By the age of 19-24 months, the toddler can
Imitates a vertical line, a horizontal line and scribble a circle.
String one to three 1” beads
Holds crayons with thumb and fingers, turn knobs to open the doors.
Unzips large zipper
Walks up and down 1-4 steps with support, runs 5-10 feet
Matches objects, sounds to animals, identifies 1-6 body parts, sort objects
Understands most noun words, follow instructions
Turn pages one at a time, recognizes self in photographs
Attempts sing songs with words, names two pictures, express needs by using words
Imitates doing household work and other real life activities - symbolic play
Plays imaginatively; pretend to cook, dust, wash dishes, play "mommy" or "daddy" etc.
Interact with peers using gestures and engages in parallel play
Feeds by self by spoon with some spilling, distinguishes between edible and non edible objects
knows what to do with common objects such as a hammer etc. and knows their purpose
