    Rice cultivation is limited to north 49o in Czechoslovakia and south35o in New South Wales. But most of the world’s rice is grown in tropics which include countries of South and South East Asia, West Africa and Central and South America. Important rice growing countries are India, China, Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, etc.

    In India, rice is grown through out in all the states. It is a cosmopolitan crop grown in high altitude hills and also in regions below mean sea level (Kuttanad area of Kerala). The major rice growing states in India are West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, etc.
