ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT OF ECCD PROGRAMMES
Lesson 02: Application of Developmental theories in ECE

Lawrence Kohlberg

Kohlberg has conducted studies on moral development of children and has concluded that children’s moral growth also follows a fixed pattern of movement from a lower stage to a higher stage.

Educational implications of Kohlberg’s theory: It is suggested that the teachers and parents should act as models of fairness, justice and integrity for the children until the children reach the independence or pre-conventional stage. At the conventional level when the child’s emphasis is upon pleasing others, the teachers should help them in reaching the advanced stage of moral development. Opportunities may also be provided for ethical and moral problems.
