Risk factors for malabsorption syndrome

Malabsorption and maldigestion may be due to various factors like –

  • Pancreatic disorders
  • Bilary disease
  • Ileal disease
  • Gut resection
  • Deficiency of digestive enzymes
  • Treatment procedures like radiation and chemotherapy
  • Gluten induced enteropathy.

Sprue or gluten induced enteropathy is an example of a specific underlying condition affecting intestinal absorption.
