Mode of action and clinical symptoms

The early effects are characterized by intense tingling of the limbs followed by hot and cold sensations. Central nervous system symptoms include itching, muscle cramps, psychological disorders, vomiting, headache, numbness, muscle spasm, and convulsion. Gangrenous effects of the extremities are due to long and intense peripheral vasoconstriction of the a -adrenergic ergot agonists.
