Textiles can be dyed in different forms. Before dyeing, a proper selection of a dye must be made. The dyer must consider quality of fibre, yarn, weave, finishing process and suitability of dye to various uses. All dyes cannot be expected to be fast in all conditions, such as perspiration, or sunlight but they must be fast to the conditions with which they will come in to contact with or get exposed to in use.
