Lesson 1: Techniques of Designing Textiles

Knitting

Knitting is a second most frequently used versatile method of making fabric. Loops are interlaced in a variety of ways with the aid of needles specially designed for this purpose, to form the fabric. The greatest advantage of these fabrics is their stretching ability which is not found in woven fabrics. Thus, their use is found where fit and comfort are of major concern. They are usually made from one set of yarns unlike weaving, where distinctly two sets are used.
