Lesson 2:Process of Designing

Introduction

Design is two things:

1. process
2. product.

Design as process, is planning to meet a goal by proper planning, organizing and carrying out the plan according to a particular purpose. As product, it is the end result or the outcome of a process or plan. The steps and order of the process are fundamentally the same regardless of the end product. Practice in transforming an idea into realism of any product helps in generating other ideas, once the defined process steps are followed. There are many variations of the process, from general to specific applications, but there are basically six basic steps that help in achieving an idea into reality. These are:

1. Goal setting
2. Examine the Influences
3. Establish Criteria
4. Carry out the Plan
5. Evaluate the Product
