Lesson 9: Loom and Its Parts

Introduction

Loom is the basic tool in the production of woven fabric. As seen earlier, there are different types of looms used in the different geographical areas but all these looms perform the same operations in the production of woven fabric. The present modern looms used in the textile industry are almost similar to the conventional handlooms except that they are mechanized in operations.

Weaving, to be performed, requires two sets of yarns – warp and weft, while other fabric construction methods like knitting, braiding etc require only one set of yarns.
