Reed and Beater

It is a metallic comb like structure with a frame on all four sides. The space between any two metallic blades of the reed is called a dent. Reeds are available with different spaces between blades or dentages to suit various fabric structures. Dents keep the warp properly spaced on the loom. Generally two warp are threaded through each dent. The method of passing warp through the dents is called ‘sleying’

The beater also called as ‘batten’ that hold the reed. It is swung forward to beat the weft close to the fabric woven.
