Identifying Information Types and Sources

There are two main sources of data- the primary and secondary data

  1. Primary data:

When data is collected first hand especially for the purpose of a particular study it is primary data. It is an original data collected by the researcher either through communication or by observation.

  2. Secondary data:

When data is already available from other sources and this data is used for the purpose of the study it forms the secondary data or desk research as it is called. It is cheaper and quickly obtained and also is available when primary data cannot be obtained.
