Introduction

  • Successful aging is defined not by longevity alone but also by sufficient well being in multiple domains- socially, physically and mentally.
  • The three components for successful aging which can avoid disease are: engagement in activities and maintaining high physical and cognitive function.
  • Old age is best defined as the age of retirement or 60 years and above. Improvement in health care technology has enhanced life expectancy.
  • Ageing is a normal process which begins at conception and ends with death. Goal of nutritional care should be to help the aged to achieve a healthy, purposeful and independent living.
