Condition associated with loss in bone density and bone mass, increased vulnerability to fractures.
Due to high rate of calcium resorption from bone into blood than that of bone formation.
Due to decreased number of cells, decrease in thickness of cortex and increased porosity of bone.
Frequent fractures of vertebrae, femur and radius are common.
Management: Change in sedentary life style, dietary pattern and reduction in emotional stress. Inclusion of plant based estrogens, isoflavones; genisteines (Soya) reduces menopausal problems and osteoporosis. (fig. Copy from H.N lesson 34)
