Influence or Persuasive Functions

Lesson 3 : Functions of Communication

Influence or Persuasive Functions

The main purpose of communication is to influence or bring about a change in the behaviour of other person(s). This influencing or persuasive function of communication has been stressed by Berlo (1960) and Aristotle. In extension the main aim of the extension worker is to influence the individual to change his beliefs, values, understandings etc and to persuade the individual to act in a desired way.
