MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTION 4(1+3)
Lesson 9 : Interactivity

Introduction

Running a multimedia presentation on a computer adds the capability of interactivity. Interactivity allows the viewer to navigate through a presentation in their own way and at their own pace. Users can jump from topic to topic and skipping areas of little interest.

Interactivity is the real key to an effective and successful multimedia title. It makes the program feel more personal to the user.

b

Interactivity can be accomplished by linking all of the multimedia components - that is text, graphics, animation, audio and video - into a cohesive interactive application.

On-line catalogues are an ideal example of useful interactivity. Using a number of indexing techniques from text to pictures, customers can jump from section to section in the catalogue. They can even order an item as they browse by using a popup order form.

With the increase in the quality and decrease in the price of touch screens, interactivity becomes affordable for trade shows and in-store demos. Attract browsers with a multimedia kiosk presentation they can participate in. Video hookups to televisions allow one person to use the kiosk while many others watch. And nothing attracts people to a trade show booth like a crowd.
