Lesson 1 : Concept of Photo Journalism

Meaning of Photography

Photography is a personal one and fascinating subject. We take pictures to express our feelings about people, nature and the world around us. The purpose of taking photos is to please yourself and to communicate to a small circle of friends and family.

Most of us aren’t professional photographers, but many of us take our amateur photography seriously. Over time, we come to realize that there’s a lot more to taking pictures than just pointing and shooting! It attracts many people. Sometimes people take it as a hobby and some others as a profession. Photojournalism is a kind of photography. It deals with people and events. Photojournalism encompasses a broad variety of word and picture reporting.

In 1940’s the term photojournalism was coined by Professor Cliff Edom of the University of Missouri.
