Types of print material

  • Newspaper: A newspaper is a publication containing news and information and advertising, usually printed on low- cost paper called newsprint.

  • Tabloids: Half the size of the usual size of newspaper/ broadsheets at 380 mm by 300 mm (15 by 11 ¾ inches), and often perceived as sensationalist in contrast to broadsheets.

  • Magazine: A magazine is a periodical publication containing a variety of articles, generally financed by advertising and/ or purchase by readers.

  • Journals: A journal is a collection of articles usually written by scholars in an academic or professional field. An editorial board reviews articles to decide whether they should be accepted.

  • Book: A book is a collection of sheets of paper, parchment or other material with a piece of text written on them, bound together along one edge within covers. A book is also a literary work or a main division of such work.

  • E-book: A book produced in electronic format is known as an e-book.

  • Leaflets: A leaflet may be a single sheet of paper used to present information on only one topic in a concise manner and in simple language. Leaflets are sometimes called flyers. Flyers are typically used by individuals or businesses to promote their products or services.

  • Pamphlet: A pamphlet is a single printed page used for advertising an event, service or other activity.

  • Handout: A handout is something given freely. It can refer to materials handed out for presentation purposes or to a charitable gift, among other things. Handouts may also refer to short, usually single page assignments distributed in high school or college.

  • News Letter: A news letter is a regularly distributed publication generally about one main topic that is of interest to its subscribers. A news letter deals with current items of interest and normally is printed periodically. News letter deal with more than one subject, are printed in large numbers and distributed in many ways.

  • Folders: A folder is a single piece of paper folded once or twice. When opened material is presented in sequence. Folders are usually prepared on “offset” or heavier paper.

  • Extension Bulletins: A bulletin is a booklet, usually 12 to 20 pages. Single topics are discussed at length and in detail. Bulletins are primarily for extension workers progressive formers, school teachers and instructors in colleges and extension training centers.

  • Booklet: A booklet is a small book or group of pages.

  • Brochure: A brochure (also referred to as a pamphlet) is a type of leaflet. Brochures are most commonly found at places that tourists frequently visit, brochure racks or stands may suggest visits to amusement parks and other points of interest.
