Lesson 1 : Extension Programme

Important Terms

The important terms related to extension programme planning are discussed below.

  • Situation is a statement of affairs that includes the cultural, social, economic and physical conditions in which a particular group of people find themselves at a given period of time.
  • Objectives are expressions of the ends towards which our efforts are directed. It means a “direction of movement”.
  • Problem is a condition that the people after study have decided that it needs changing. For eg. problem of safe drinking water
  • Solution is a course of proposed action to change an unsatisfactory condition to one that is more satisfying. For eg. Provision of deep- bore hand pumps for safe drinking water.
  • A Plan of work is on outline of activities so arranged as to enable efficient execution of the entire programme. It answers the questions how, when, where and by whom the work is to be done.
  • A Calendar of work is a plan of work arranged chronologically i.e. for a year under different months.
  • Project is an outline of procedure and pertains only to some phase of extension work.
