Fastening the thread ends

Once the bobbin thread is pulled up through the needle hole in the needle plate, both the upper and lower threads need to be pulled away from the operator and secured under the presser foot before machining on the cloth. This is an essential step one needs to carry out because failure in doing so will tangle the thread in the beginning of the stitches. Sometimes the thread ends breaks, gets stuck up in the shuttle causing the machine to stop functioning. In which case the shuttle should be opened out to clear thread picks.
