ASPARAGUS
Objective:
The asparagus is cultivated for its tender shoots, commonly known as spears. The spears are treated as a delicacy in preparation of soups and other vegetable products. Large quantities of asparagus spears are canned and frozen. It is a perennial plant which starts yielding a sizable crop after about three years. Its dsemand is gradually increasing though it is not yet popular in India. The present chapter will make the students familiar with its importance, production technology, seed production practices and plant protection measures.
