SWINE POX

Definition

  • A benign disease characterized by the appearance of typical pox lesion on the ventral abdomen

Etiology

  • Suipox virus

Incidence

  • Occurs in most countries where pigs are raised including India

Transmission

  • By swine louse Haematopinus suis
  • Solid immunity occurs after infection

Clinical signs

  • Incubation period 5-7days
  • Erythematous areas follwed by papules, vesicles red brown scales
  • Lesions are seen in underside of the body and inside the upper limbs, back and on face
  • Eosinophilic cytoplasmic inclusion bodies in epithelial cells
