Learning Objective

This chapter has been designed to give the students the fundamental knowledge about the role of microorganism in the cycling of elements in nature. The students will be introduced to different processes such as assimilation and immobilization of nutrients in different cycling processes such as carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur cycles and the role of microorganisms involved in these processes.
