Procedure for focusing an object
-
Place the low power objective in position and adjust the microscope so that it is directly in front of you
-
Turn on the illuminator and adjust the light with the diaphragm. It should be open approximately half way
-
Place the prepared slide on the stage and adjust the mechanical stage until the object is over the centre of the hole in the stage
-
Rotate the coarse adjustment forward as far as it will go
-
Look through the oculars and bring the object into focus by slowly turning the fine adjustment towards you
-
After selecting the field, place the high power objective in position and with fine adjustment, focus the object
Care of the Microscope:
-
Always carry the microscope with both hands. Place one hand around the arm of the microscope and other under the base of the instrument
-
Do not keep the microscope closer to the edge of the table
-
Clean the surface of all lenses with lens paper before using the microscope
-
Do not remove the oculars or objective lens
-
Be careful never to lower the objectives with coarse adjustment while looking through the ocular
-
After use, oil should be removed from the stage and oil immersion lens, using lens cleaning paper only
-
The low power objective should be in position, racked down as far as it will go
-
The mechanical stage should be centred and the movable condenser should be racked down.
