Procedure for focusing an object

Procedure for focusing an object

  1. Place the low power objective in position and adjust the microscope so that it is directly in front of you

  2. Turn on the illuminator and adjust the light with the diaphragm.  It should be open approximately half way

  3. Place the prepared slide on the stage and adjust the mechanical stage until the object is over the centre of the hole in the stage

  4. Rotate the coarse adjustment forward as far as it will go

  5. Look through the oculars and bring the object into focus by slowly turning the fine adjustment towards you

  6. After selecting the field, place the high power objective in position and with fine adjustment, focus the object

Care of the Microscope:

  1. Always carry the microscope with both hands. Place one hand around the arm of the microscope and other under the base of the instrument

  2. Do not keep the microscope closer to the edge of the table

  3. Clean the surface of all lenses with lens paper before using the microscope

  4. Do not remove the oculars or objective lens

  5. Be careful never to lower the objectives with coarse adjustment while looking through the ocular

  6. After use, oil should be removed from the stage and oil immersion lens, using lens cleaning paper only

  7. The low power objective should be in position, racked down as far as it will go

  8. The mechanical stage should be centred and the movable condenser should be racked down.
