Corkscrew defect

CORKSCREW DEFECT

  • The mid piece of the affected sperm looks like a cork screw as compared to normal cylindrical appearance.

It is due to an irregular distribution of the mitochondrial sheath together with a high incidence of persistent proximal droplets in the affected sperms

Hereditary sperm defects

  • Commonly seen in aged bulls in several exotic breeds.
  • The defect is due to progressive testicular degeneration resulting in decline in sperm count.
  • Recovery is rare.
