Red gram being a leguminous crop belongs to family Leguminoseae (Fabaceae).Cultivated red gram plants may be classified into two groups. Cajanuscajan variety bicolor:Mostly late Maturing varieties are included in this group. Plants are tall, bushy with yellow flower, pods dark coloured containing four or five seeds. It is cultivated extensively in northern India. Cajanuscajan variety flavus:Early maturing varieties of comparatively smaller plants, yellow flower and pods containing, only two or three seed included in this group. It is mainly grown in Deccan and southern India. |
