Introduction to Catering Anagement

Institutional feeding is not new to India. Religion, tradition and hculture have always brought people together in large numbers to celebrate festivals, marriages, birthdays etc. with one of the major objective of eating together.

The development of catering institutions has, however, closely followed the changes in eating habits and needs of people that have resulted from the development of the country in different spheres – education, transportation, industrialization, health care, and national and international trade. The requirements of people for eating outside their homes have thus changed from time to time, and given rise to the wide variety of institutions, which have tried to keep pace with the new demands.
