Coffee

Coffee is an important beverage used all over the world. The ripe berries are used for coffee beverage. Fruit resembles a small cherry with dark red purple cover. The fleshy mucilaginous pulp of fruit encloses two oval greenish grey seeds or beans. Each covered by a thin membrane, the silver skin. Both seeds are enclosed in a common husk like membrane or parchment.

The important varieties of coffee grown in different countries are

      • Coffee Arabica
      • Coffee Robusta and
      • Coffee Liberica
Of these, Arabica and Rubusta varieties are cultivated in India.
