Effects of HIV Infection

  • Cytolytic action on infected cells.
  • Immunologic abnormalities, notably a decreased number of T4 lymphocytes.
  • Secondary opportunistic infections caused by protozoa, fungi, bacteria, viruses etc.
  • Increased susceptibility to neoplasms.
  • Neurologic involvement leading to complications like AIDS dementra complex and disorders of the peripheral nervous system and skeletal muscle.
