Occupants of Public Buildings

  • Child, young and youth, middle-aged, old. For older people to use the building, one should recall the effects of stiffening joints, arthritis, poor short-term memory, loss of strength, and so on. For the children to use, safety, security and convenience are of great concern.
  • Novice and experts These group use things in very different ways, at very different skill levels. It is necessary to keep the design accessible for both of these groups
  • Population of various size, shape and gender. Different populations tend to be of different sizes; within a single population, women tend to be smaller than men, and not as strong (there are always exceptions). And people are of very different shapes - pregnant women, old men, children, people in wheelchairs, and so on.
  • Language and culture. People from different parts of the world, with different regional cultures, customs and languages, access buildings and products. They need to understand circulation paths and controls.
