Elements for Ergonomic Consideration in Building Interiors

Good space planning: It is a critical component. Work in work environment has created a whole new set of terminology that relates to the work environment;
  • Flexible office design – It optimizes the use of space and technology and supports all employees by matching their work tasks to the appropriate work setting.
  • Personal storage – provided for employees working on a flexible basis near to the workspace.
  • Dynamic workplace – designed to allow focus on collaborative work and connections between people, wherever they are located in the world.
  • Commons – spaces for both formal and informal meetings are provided and can include games, refreshments areas and drop-in workspaces – they are designed to provide a contrast to the quiet areas.
  • Neighborhood – quiet, discreet areas are designated for employees to engage in focused work.
  • Customer area – client areas that include multimedia messaging, AV facilities and hospitality features.
  • Group workspace – multi-use workspaces that support a wide range of collaborative work.
General Space Planning Principles
  • Include informal interaction areas
  • Utilize appropriate spaces sizes and configurations relative to specific project
  • Create and capture outdoor views for building occupants
  • Design toilets and shower/locker facilities on the basis of gender parity and disabled access
  • Adequate custodial facilities on each floor and each wing
  • Integration of building system

Pay due attention to Circulation and Access Principle

  • Public Health and Safety are critical consideration
  • Layout of multiple safe, legible exist routes
  • Use space planning to support wayfindings within the building
    • Highlighting the major building entry
    • Clear paths to stair & elevators
  • Incorporate a queuing layout for functions where people will be waiting in line Ex: Library, tickets booking counter)
  • Facilitate disabled access
  • Adequate clearances for moving furnishing and equipment

Ensure Adaptability for future alterations

  • Future layouts
  • Flexibility to accommodate change over time
  • Modular space planning approach to permit reconfiguration of partitions & services to each module
  • Configure individual spaces to permit a variety of layout, to adapt to different or changing requirements
  • Plan the building to accommodate future renovation expansion and upgrading
