Lesson 02 : Shallow Foundations

Footing

The lower most portion of the foundation which is in direct contact with the sub-soil i s called footing.

  • Foundations rest upon a footing.
  • The floor, walls and ceiling loads are passed through foundation to the footing.
  • The footing distributes the weight of a structure to the ground.
  • The footing is a cast – in – place concrete member that rests on undistributed soil and is wide and thick enough to carry the imposed weight.
