Ramps

Lesson 22 and 23 : Stairs

Ramps

A ramp is a sloping surface and it is adopted as a substitute for stair for easy connection between floors. The important features of a ramp are

  • The usual slope of ramp is 1 in 15, but a slope of 1 in 10 is desirable. This indicates that the ramp requires more space.
  • The flooring of ramp should be non-slippery.
  • The shape of ramp need not be straight. It may be of any geometrical shape such as zigzag, spiral, curve etc.
  • The ramps are provided at places such as garages, railway stations , stadiums, town halls, office buildings, etc. where movement of large number of persons or vehicle is likely to occur.
