Lesson 24 : Water Supply System

Introduction

According to WHO, safe and wholesome water has four qualities –

• Pleasant to taste,
• Free from disease – causing agent,
• Free from harmful and chemical substance and
• Suitable for all domestic purposes.

Provision for water supply is an important component of a building and it consumes about 8 -10 per cent of the total cost. A poorly designed / constructed water supply could cause choking of the appliances or leakage from the pipelines leading to dampness in the walls and floors and unhygienic conditions. Hence there is a need to design and construct efficient and economic systems of water supply.
