Preparation of 1000 ml of standard N/10 Na2CO3 solution

PREPARATION OF 1000 ml OF STANDARD N/10 Na2CO3 SOLUTION

  • Na2CO3 is used as primary standard for alkali because it is obtained in pure state and weighed accurately.

                   Equivalent weight of Na2CO3 = ((23 x 2 + 12 + 16 x 3 ) / 2 )= 53 g

  • So to prepare 1000 ml of 1 N Na2CO3 solution, amount of Na2CO3 required will be 53 g and for 1000 ml of 0.1 N Na2CO3 solution the amount of Na2CO3 required will be 5.3 g

Procedure

  • Weigh exactly 5.3 g of Na2CO3.
  • Then transfer this Na2CO3 to a beaker containing about 800 ml of distilled water.
  • Dissolve the Na2CO3 completely by stirring.
  • Add more distilled water and make up the volume to 1000 ml.
