Procedure to determine the pH using pH Meter

DETERMINATION OF pH - PROCEDURE

  •  Initially the pH meter is to be standardized using standard buffers of pH 7.0, 4.0 and 9.2.
  • Then the pH values of the various acetate buffers are to be determined by immersing the electrode into the various buffers.

Precaution

  • The pH meter electrode must be gently rinsed with distilled water before immersing in different acetate buffers using filter / tissue papers.
  • The temperature knob should be set at room temperature (for temperature compensation) before determining the pH.
  • The electrode should be kept immersed in 4 M KCl or pH 4.0 buffer solution (for storage) and should not be allowed to go dry.
