Posterior mesenteric artery

POSTERIOR MESENTERIC ARTERY

  • Visceral unpaired.
  • It arises from the ventral face of the aorta near its termination behind the origin of the spermatic arteries.
  • It is related to the posterior mesenteric ganglion and the plexus encloses the vessel.
  • It divides in to an anterior short colic branch to supply the terminal part of the colon and a posterior longer anterior haemorrhoidal branch to supply the rectum.
