MAXILLARY NERVE BLOCK

  • The maxillary nerve which is a branch of the trigeminal nerve, is sensory in nature and emerges through the foramen orbitorotundum, passes forwards in the pterygoipalatine fossa and enters into infraorbital canal through maxillary foramen.
  • The maxillary nerve gives branches to the teeth of upper jaw.
  • Indications: To desensitize the teeth, alveoli and gums of upper jaw.
  • Site: The maxillary foramen to be reached by inoculation needle through the site 2-3 cm below the external canthus of the eye and between the posterior border of the malar bone and coronoid process of mandible.
