Wool sampling techniques
-
The wool from different agroclimatic regions breeds and seasons may be marked as such and marked separately.
-
At the time of shearing, the fleeces should be properly skirted so that the lower quality parts of the fleeces comprising of leg, belly, britch, soiled, coloured etc., are separated from the main fleece.
-
The fleeces after skirting may be graded into 2-3 grades like fine, medium, coarse. This separation may not be necessary in case if the separation of animals according to sex and age is possible or the odd fleeces are removed from the lot.
-
The wools so prepared should be packed properly land offered for sale in large lots.
-
Bales from individual lots should be sampled and these samples are subjected to thorough laboratory evaluation for determining the yield, length average fibre diameter and vegetable matter content. This information should be made available to perspective buyers.
