DETERMINATION OF FIBRE DIAMETER

• Fibre diameter is currently measured mainly by the Air Flow Method and lesser extent by projection microscope technique. Both are likely to be superseded by image analysis method in near future.
• Other technique for measurement of fibre diameter is laser scan. This new technique could measure the fibre diameter rapidly and accurately.
• However, some problems are associated with these techniques to measure the fibre diameter and medullation per cent of the fibre simultaneously especially for carpet type wools.
