Pillar balance

PILLAR BALANCE (or) APOTHECARIES BALANCE

  • The pillar balance has got a wooden base on which a pillar is fixed. The pillar has got two metallic pans on either side.
  • There is a pointer in the pillar and a lever is attached to the pillar. The weights are usually placed in the left side pan and the ingredients to be weighed are kept on the right side.
  • The end point of correct weighment is the equally balanced position of both pans when the lever is lifted from rest.
  • A piece of clean paper in made into two equal parts and one is kept on the left and the other on the right pan after folding on the out side to avoid spillage.
  • This balance can weigh up to a maximum of 60 grams.
