Differences between diffusion and osmosis

Diffusion Osmosis
It is defined as the movement of molecules or ions of a solute or a solvent, be it a solid, liquid or gas from the region of its higher concentration to the region of lower concentration
The movement of molecules of water or solvent from the region of higher potential to lower potential through a semi permeable membrane
The diffusion may occur in any medium and the diffusing particle may be solid, liquid or gas.
Osmosis occurs only in liquid medium and only the solvent molecules move from one place to another.
