CHEMICAL RESTRAINT OF NON-HUMAN PRIMATE-BONNET MACAQUE

• Animal may be kept in starved status for a considerable period of time before the chemical immobilization. Ketamine alone or ketamine along with xylazine may be used.
• High therapeutic index, a short onset of action and good muscle relaxation are the preferred ones for selection of ketamine as the immobilizing agent. Dose of ketamine is 10-40 mg per Kg body weight by means of intramuscular route.
