Arithmetic mean of a set of observations is defined as their total divided by the number of observations, e.g. the arithmetic mean x¯ of n observation x1, x . . . . xn is given by
In case of frequency distribution xi/fi, i= 1, 2, ….. n where fi is the frequency of the variable xi, In case of grouped or continuous frequency distribution, xi is taken to be the mid-point of the class-interval. |
