1.5.3 Need for leadership

Human beings are social in nature and this tendency attracts human beings towards grouping. Any social group requires guidance and the guidance is provided by leaders.

The pattern of rural leadership reflects a transition from individual to collective, from the hereditary to elective and from ascriptive to functional type of leadership. The change over is not a sudden but a gradual process.
