Angular leaf spot

    Causal organism: Xanthomonas azadiractae
    Symptoms
    • Initially water soaked, angular spots appear on the leaf, which later turn into pale yellow in colour with oily appearance.
    • Blightening, dry of leaf, defoliation followed by cell necrosis.

    Etiology

    • Pathogen is microscopic, unicellular, reproduction by binary fission, monotrichous, motile, gram –ve and rod shaped.
    • Primary sources of inoculum: Affected plant debris (corky area of the leaves)
    • Secondary sources of inoculum: Rain splash and air borne bacterial cells
    • Entry: through stomata

    Management

    • Use healthy planting material and disease free area
    • Cut and burn the infected plants
    • Regular pruning
    • Maintain recommended NP balance and increase K application in the soil.
    • Drip irrigation helps in reducing disease incidence.
    • Chemical: copper oxychloride( 0.3%) and Streptocycline (0.05%) sprays on the trees
