- The camphor plant has young branches glabrous, terminal and axillary buds covered with bracts forming a small cone, young branches with clusters of scars from fallen bracts.
- Leaves broadly ovate, 7-10 cm long, 3-5 cm wide, and triple veined, with domatia in axils of main veins, glabrous, apex sharply acute, petioles slender, relatively long.
- Flowers are axillary, glabrous inflorescence shorter than leaves; sepals 1.5-2mm long, glabrous externally, pubescent within; staminoid and filaments pubescent.
- Camphor oil preparations have been used both internally and externally for a variety of ailments, ranging from respiratory problems to rheumatic pain. The principal use of camphor is to reduce cough.
