Cognition

  1. Bayley Scale of Infant Development:
    • Diagnose Developmental Delays , Intelligence and Measures physical, motor, sensory, and cognitive development” (Logsdon, 2009)
    • Suitable for children in the age group of 1-42 months.
    • It is a standardized norm referenced test
    • Content coverage includes-mental scale, motor scale and behavior rating scale.
    • The scale is designed to be presented with a parent present.
    • Items are playful and enjoyable for both child and experienced assessor.
    • It also contains items designed to identify young children at risk for developmental delay.
  2. Wechsler preschool & primary scale of intelligence – Revised(WPPSI-R)
    • It has subtests like object assembly, information, geometric design, comprehension,, block design, arithmetic, mazes, vocabulary, picture completion, similarities, animal pegs and sentences.
    • Assessment is believed to reflect the different aspects of intelligence and provide standardized scores to indicate intellectual functioning.
  3. Battelle Developmental Inventory:
    • It is designed for children from birth to 8 years.
    • It assesses domains like cognition, motor, self help, language and social skills.
  4. Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale:
    • It is suitable for children from 2years to 23 years.
    • It measures general intelligence.
    • It focuses on verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, visual reasoning and short term memory.
  5. Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence(WPPSI-R)
    • It is suitable for children from 4.5 years to 6 years.
    • It assesses language and perception.
  6. Mccarthy Scales of Children’s Abilities:
    • It is suitable for children from 2.5- 8.5 years.
    • It evaluates the child’s general intelligence.
    • It adentifies strengths and weaknesses in several ability areas.
    • Areas include verbal, perceptual, quantitqative,memory, motor and general cognitive skills.
  7. AGC Early Screening Profile:
    • It is devised by Harrisonet et al. in 1990.
    • It is used as a comprehensive screening tool for children of 2-6-11 years.
    • It consists of a) items that are administered directly to the child and b) surveys that are completed by parents, teachers or both.
    • The components of the test include
      • Cognitive / language profile : direct testing of child, it takes 5-15 minutes and the subscales include visual discrimination, logical relations and language subscale and basic school skills.

      • Self help/social profile
