Applications of Pedigree method

Applications of Pedigree method
  • The pedigree method is the most commonly used method for selection from segregating generations of crosses in self-pollinated crops.
  • This method is often used to correct some specific weaknesses of an established variety.
  • Pedigree method is also useful in the selection of new superior recombinant types.
  • It is almost hoped that some transgressive segregants would be recovered.
  • Thus the method is suitable for improving specific characteristics, such as disease resistance, plant height, yield, quality and maturity time etc.
